Chris Pugsley is one of New Zealand’s foremost military historians known for his extensive expertise in 20th-century and Commonwealth military history, with a particular focus on New Zealand.

His career began in the New Zealand Army, where he served as an Infantry officer and retired in 1988 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service. Pugsley pursued further academic excellence, earning a DPhil from Waikato University in 1992 and serving as a Writing Fellow at Victoria University in 1994. He then spent 12 years as a Senior Lecturer in War Studies at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK.

His contributions to military history have been recognized with numerous accolades, including being appointed a Distinguished Alumni of Waikato and named as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015. Pugsley has authored/edited over 20 books, cementing his status as a leading authority in his field.
