Energy, Geopolitics, and the return of industrial policy: a Kiwi view from inside the International Energy Agency

Andy Cameron, Senior Consultant, At Large

Wednesday, 25 September 2024 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Wellington

GBLT1, Government Buildings (Law School), Pipitea Campus, Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington

The New Zealand Institute of International Affairs (NZIIA) Wellington Branch invites you to a presentation on “Energy, Geopolitics, and the return of industrial policy: a Kiwi view from inside the International Energy Agency" presented by Andy Cameron, Senior Consultant at At Large in Wellington.

The IEA provides energy analysis, data, policy recommendations, and solutions to governments all around the world.

Its work is heavily quoted by journalists and used by policy makers, while in recent years it has become a vocal proponent for developing secure, affordable and sustainable energy systems, with a focus on decarbonisation.

But what really happens there? How does its analysis impact on member countries? What are the big trends in the energy transition, and how will they affect our lives?

Come along to hear musings on the unstoppable growth in clean energy and batteries, the messy reality of the energy transition, and why the return of developed-nation industrial policy is linked to energy markets; all backed up with colourful graphs and analysis taken from IEA publications.

Following the presentation there will be opportunity for Q&A from attendees.
