Why New Zealand should be worried about China (and North Korea)

Anna Fifield is currently the Asia-Pacific editor at The Washington Post. She has an extensive CV. She got her journalism start in NZ  and then at the age of 25 headed to London and secured a job at the Financial Times, where she worked for 13 years, mainly as a foreign correspondent.

Fifield went on to hold several positions for the Washington Post and has reported from more than 20 countries, including Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya and North Korea. During those years she covered the first nuclear test by North Korea in 2006, the disputed Iranian presidential election of 2009, and the 2012 US presidential election.

She returned to NZ when the coronavirus broke out to be the editor of The Dominion Post and Stuff’s Newsroom.  As the Beijing bureau chief for The Washington Post she focused her attention on news and issues in Japan and Korea. She has been to North Korea a dozen times.  She will be focusing her presentation on China but will also cover some aspects of Korea.
