Address by Colin Keating

Colin Keating

Thursday, 21 November 7:30pm

Wairarapa

Rosewood, 417 Queen Street, Kuripuni

Colin has had an impressive and demanding career as a diplomat, representing New Zealand on the world stage. In particular he was our country’s representative at the United Nations from 1993-1996, including a year as President of the Security Council.

During that time the UN was confronted with the genocide in Rwanda, the failed state of Somalia and the need to enforce sanctions against Iraq. Colin’s leadership within the UN was widely respected during these varied crises.

Colin rose to become Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but his career experiences extend back to the Rainbow Warrior affair, and the adoption of New Zealand’s nuclear-free legislation.

None-the-less he remains active as an advisor and envoy for our government – prior to our November meeting he will have recently returned from Brussels! With his extensive and up to the minute experience Colin is New Zealand’s foremost expert on the UN and his talk in November will focus on New Zealand’s place and role within that vital global forum.

A talk not to be missed!

Coffee and tea are available from 7:00pm.

The November meeting will be the last for this year, with our meetings resuming on 20 February 2025.
