SPEAKER: HE Fernando Curcio

Ambassador Curcio is a graduate in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and in European Studies from the University of Louvain (Belgium).   He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1990.

Outside of Europe, he has served as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Spain in Sudan (1990 to 1992), in Paraguay (1992 to 1995), and in Zimbabwe (1995 to 1998).

Within the Ministry, from 1998 to 2000 he served as the Technical Advisor and Head of Area in the International Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He has been seconded to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as Director General of Multilateral Fisheries Organizations in the General Secretariat of Maritime Fisheries (2000 to 2002), and as Director General of Fisheries Resources, Marine Conservation and Aquaculture (2004 to 2009). In-between he was Counsellor in the Permanent Representation of Spain before the European Union, in Brussels.

He returned to the Diplomatic Service as Ambassador in Vietnam from 2009 to 2013, and then as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in The Netherlands from 2013 to 2018.
