WAIRARAPA: We Need to Speak About Gaza - But Differently
Wednesday, 20 November 2019 at 8:00pm
The Seminar Room, Wairarapa Sports House, Cnr Chapel and Jackson Streets, Masterton

SPEAKER: Marilyn Garson

Marilyn lived and worked in the Gaza Strip from 2011 to 2015.

She speaks from experience about the lives being lived behind the blockade walls, and the impact of donor states’ (in)action.  A Jew with skin on both sides of Israel-Palestine, she speaks in the unifying language of human rights, which places people at the centre of the story and leads to solutions.

Marilyn Garson spent nearly two decades launching locally-owned social enterprises to create employment for excluded communities including Afghan women in their homes, and Cambodians with disabilities.  In Gaza, she was the Economic Director of Mercy Corps, and then a business and livelihoods consultant to the office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency’s Gaza Director.  She volunteered to join the UN emergency response team that remained in Gaza through the 2014 war.
