SPEAKER: Viesturs Altments

Viesturs was born in 1950 in a displaced person's camp in Celle, Germany in the British Sector.   His parents were from Latvia and they had in turn escaped Soviet and German occupation.  He arrived with his family in Hanmer, New Zealand and tells a moving story of an extraordinary life, (including working in the Cook Islands as Senior Crown Counsel and Acting Solicitor-General, and seven years as the Chief Executive of the Nelson City Council).  He lives in Golden Bay and has a continuing interest in the Baltic States.
