Senior Consultant, Strategic Events, NZIIA National Office, Auckland

The NZIIA provides an independent platform for renowned dignitaries, academics, and speakers to converse directly with New Zealanders. Previous speakers have included Noble Peace Prize winners, prime ministers, foreign ministers, ambassadors, corporate executives, and the like. The role affords interaction with leaders, influencers and thinkers. Our events are often covered in print, TV, radio, and social media.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Execute a wide scope of NZIIA National Office strategic event projects
  • Understand the Institute's brand and positioning with the ability to ensure consistent, messaging, and to attract and encourage debate on global issues 
  • Manage multiple, complex timetables successfully in a collaborative fast paced environment
  • Manage external relationships (corporate, academic, government, print/radio/TV media) and work with closely with Wellington team
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and work across boundaries, including a broad range of peers and executives
  • Self-starter; with broad event management duties; venue selection, promotion, monetization, design, post-event write-ups, continued conversation online
  • Provide onsite event support, registration management and other duties assigned by the Director as necessary
  • Manage and contribute towards creative problem solving
  • Create pre-event planning and post event summaries for all stakeholders 

Ideally your DNA includes these talents

  • 5+ years successful event & project management experience planning large, complex events & programs (product launches, conferences, executive programs and trade shows). 
  • A keen interest in current affairs; good with people, internationally-minded
  • Proven effectiveness in contract negotiations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to creatively negotiate demands
  • Results-oriented, customer driven, organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to assess and prioritize workload in a strict deadline oriented environment
  • Thrive on teamwork and overcoming obstacles; work with remote team (Wellington)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Solid understanding of event technology, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent project management skills and a desire to improve current processes
  • Deep comfort level with program analysis, measurement, reporting
  • You are collaborative, proactive, creative, and entrepreneurial; have a healthy appetite for feedback, and thrive in high-pressure situations
  • You are a self-starter; with the possibility of working from home
  • Social media and web savvy; comfortable with updating websites, posting videos, and social media promotion
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience require
